Manus McGuire of the County Sligo and Buttons and Bows brings us an excellent selection of fiddle music, played with dexterity and great musical understanding. His sources are Ireland, Scotland and Cape Breton Island, with a nice sprinkling of new tunes, some of them of his own composition. There are a few waltzes, a type of tune the Irish tradition is deficient in, unless you include the airs of songs. While it is very pleasant to listen to, one of the nicest things about this recording is the pleasure in playing that is actually palpable. Manus was awarded the male musician of the year 2006 by the Irish American News.
