The Bothy ballads have proved a rich source of material for the revival. There are some splendid songs on this one including 'The Keach in the Creel' and 'The Road and the Miles to Dundee'.
In the Northeast of Scotland it was the practice that male farm workers to be accommodated in buildings separate from the farmhouse proper. Such buildings were known as bothies. Since the Northeast was extremely rich in traditional songs and ballads, it was natural that the bothies should reflect life and attitudes of the workers.
