Out in the Fields is Matt Keane’s first solo production. Matt is a member of the famous traditional Keane family from Caherlistrane, Co. Galway. The album is a mix of folk, country and trad, with tracks ranging from the American songs Roseville Fair and Awake Awake to John Prine¹s Love, Love, Love. There are three songs from former Saw Doctor Pádraic Stevens, Thomas Moore¹s, The Last Rose of Summer ‹ the party song of Matt¹s mother Bridie is also included, as is the Karine Polwart¹s Follow the Heron Home.
Meanwhile, the next generation of the Keane family can be heard on Out in the Fields, as it features Matt¹s daughter Orlaith, singing Mary Chapin Carpenter¹s song The Moon and St Christopher.
FIRST HEARING:
A fine voice opens on a really nice ballad with good lyric & melody.
This bodes well for the rest of the album from another member of the Keane family.
As befits the status of the artist, the accompanying players are all, also, of the highest quality.
Well worth a listen.
